Our Thursday evening talks will be devoted to an in depth study of the Yogacara Buddhist model of consciousness. This model of 8-levels of consciousness includes the powerful idea of a storehouse in which karmic seeds are stored and makes useful connections between Buddhism and modern psychology. A really valuable system to learn about.
Our text for the study series with talks by Nomon Tim and the other Red Cedar Practice Leaders will be based on Ben Connelly’s book Inside Vasudandhu’s Yogacara.
The talks-to-date are available on the Buddhist Psychology Dharma Talks page.
We recommend purchasing the book and reading along as you have time, but talks will be useful stand-alone as well.
To attend simply come to our regular Thursday evening practice. The talks are held at 8pm after zazen, kinhin, and service.
Below see which of Vasubadhu’s 30 verses we’ll be exploring in each talk. The book has a short chapter corresponding to each verse. (note: not every Thursday, we’ll continue to hold a Precepts Ceremony on the 1st Thursday of the month)
